Dr. Kathy Opfenring
As a cornerstone of the veterinary community in Yuma County, Dr. Kathy Opfenring has served this area 24/7 for over 40 years. After founding Yuma Veterinary Clinic, Dr. Opfenring spent the preceding time caring for animals of all species, often as the only doctor seeing large or exotic species and livestock.
Dr. Opfenring graduated from Colorado State University Veterinary Medical School in 1981. She was one of the first women to attend CSU’s veterinary program, and her daughter Danielle made them the first mother-daughter veterinary pair to graduate from CSU!
Because of Dr. Opfenring, Yuma Veterinary Clinic has an amazing garden area with beautiful plants and trees. She enjoys growing things, spending time with her animals, traveling to exotic locations, and taking care of her patients!
Dr. Angela Abbott
Yuma is incredibly fortunate to have the brilliant Dr. Angela Abbott at Yuma Veterinary Clinic! She is originally from Colorado Springs, Colorado, and is now a full-fledged Arizona lover! Dr. Abbott enjoys reading books in her amazing home library, spending time with her feisty cats while watching good television with her husband, and swimming on a warm day.
Dr. Abbott is a graduate of Colorado State University Veterinary Medical School and met Dr. Danielle Opfenring Amavisca on their very first day of class! After a challenging and fulfilling four years of veterinary school, they graduated together in 2016, and Dr. Abbott joined Yuma Veterinary Clinic in 2022. Internal medicine and preventive care are both passions of Dr. Abbott’s.
Her patients benefit every day from her ability to diagnose complex cases, manage chronic illnesses, and guide pet owners toward the best ways to care for their pets for a lifetime! Dr. Abbott is a “cat whisperer” and creates the best environments for our feline patients to receive the most comprehensive care possible. We are lucky to get to spend our days working with such a great doctor!
